Dental Implants at Cherrybank Dental Spa — Serving Perth, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, Scotland

A missing tooth can impair the way you greet the world. Many people with missing teeth are embarrassed to smile and experience feelings of self-consciousness about their teeth. Dental implants offer a sturdy, long-lasting alternative for replacing missing teeth. No tooth replacement option quite compares with dental implants. At Cherrybank Dental Spa in Perth, convenient to both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland, we will refer you to a qualified periodontal expert who will place your dental implants into your jaw. We will then design the teeth replacements of your choice and attach them to your new implants.

How Dental Implants Work

Dental implants consist of two parts – a titanium post implanted into the jawbone below the gum line and a tooth replacement attached to the top of the post. There are several options to consider for the tooth replacement portion, including porcelain crowns, bridges, or dentures. Our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Elaine Halley, will design your teeth replacements to fit your dental implants during your appointment at our practice located near both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland. Because the post is rooted in the bone cells of your jaw, it has the strength of a real tooth and is virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Candidates for Dental Implants

In order to be considered for dental implants, you must have enough healthy bone mass in your jaw to support an implant post. Often, people are missing teeth due to decay or injury that in turn has diminished the amount of bone in the jaw. In these cases, the bone structure must be built up with bone augmentation procedures before the post is inserted into the jaw. Bone augmentation may also be necessary for candidates for dental implants whose jaws are too short or too wide.

Placing Your Dental Implants

Although we do not place dental implants at our Perth practice near Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland, we can refer you to a qualified oral surgeon who will.

During the dental implant procedure, your surgeon will open a flap in the gums above the jawbone where the implant is to be placed. The titanium post will then be inserted into the bone, which should heal around it for the next three to six months. As this process occurs, the titanium and the bone cells fuse together, creating an anchor for your tooth replacement. The patient often wears a temporary tooth replacement over the implant during this healing period.

When the bone around your dental implants has sufficiently healed, you will return to our practice in Perth, convenient to Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland. We will then create your new crown or denture and fit it onto the top of the implant anchor. Once this step is complete, your new dental implant will look and function just like your original tooth.
